I was thinking of setting up my blog using their hosting and domain name registration since you get a year free plus 2 domain names for $6 a month, are they reliable/good, etc? Anything I should know? I am planning to set up a few pages (Specifically a wordpress blog, a page with photography, etc)

Pretty solid from what I could find out. I did the same research sometime ago, and after having registered several domain names from a few different providers, this is what I found. There is not that much “service” they have to offer in terms of the domain name, apart from letting you change a few settings like the Nameservers etc. All of them do the same job and none can deny you any of those services. If it gets hairy due to some reason at some point, you can always transfer. When you transfer, you will usually get an extra year free too!
For hosting your photography page, you can use the HTML editor inside the File Manager of your hosting provider, if you have to do some basic work. If you want more complexity, you will have to build the pages you want externally and then upload them – there must be many instructions on the internet on how to do this.
The WordPress blog that you want to set up really depends on the hosting service anybody offers. If they will let you run the WordPress script (and all of them seem to do these days), then those features come to you from WordPress. Get on a chat session with their Tech. Support person if you need any help with a specific resources from your hosting service.
I don’t want to be doing any selling here, but I have found Hostmonster to be an excellent service provider. That said, I have no reason to believe any other would/would not be any worse/better.
You will get domains for 1 year @ less than $10 and hosting is about $55 at hostgator (get coupon codes) still you save $10
